Butter Trail Re-opened January 5, 2023

The repairs to the French River Bridge wash-out are complete and the Tatamagouche Area Trails Association is pleased to announce the Butter Trail is now open to all users.

All barricades have been removed and users are advised of the temporary railings in place. Permanent railings will be installed in the spring as well as cement work to stabilize the sandstone abutment stones.

The Tatamagouche Area Trails Association is committed to maintaining the 26km section of the Trans Canada Trail and strive to ensure the safety of all users through signage, access control, bridge railings and general maintenance.  Its volunteers work cooperatively with other volunteer groups including the Nova Scotia Trails Federation, the Pictou County Trails Association, the Oxford Trails Association in reaching its objectives and connecting with other sections of the trail that make up the Short-Line Trail.

The Short-Line Trail stretches 107 kilometres from the town of Pictou, through the village of Tatamagouche and on to the town of Oxford.
